We have all been there. You’re sitting comfortably at home watching reruns of Only Fools and Horses when the doorbell goes. Surprise! It’s relatives you haven’t seen since last Christmas and they all want something to eat and drink. That’s fine if you’re the type who always has something on hand but for the rest of us, that spells trouble.
That’s why the staff here at The Stone Grill put together these two quick steak recipes. Just because you’re at home, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some first class steak. The trouble is, these steak recipes taste so good, those rellies will definitely be back for more next year!
These steakhouse-style steaks take two minutes to prepare and fifteen minutes to cook. Best of all, they are simple to do, look like they take a lot longer and they taste delicious!
4 good quality steaks
3 tablespoons butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Pre-heat the oven to 220C.
Heat up an ovenable skillet, add oil to it and let it heat until the oil is very hot. Season the steak and place into the skillet. Cook for 3 – 4 minutes each side depending on how you like your steak cooked.
Place the butter on top of the steak and then put the skillet, complete with steaks into the oven for between 8 – 13 minutes until it is done to your liking. Rest before serving.
Pepper steak stir-fry
This pepper steak stir-fry recipe offers a Chinese twist on steak and is very fast and easy to prepare. Ideal for those surprise guests or dinner any night of the week.
250ml beef stock
75ml oyster sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 teaspoons cornflour
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 tablespoon peeled, finely grated fresh ginger
2 large garlic cloves
500g steak, cut into strips
3 large peppers cut into strips
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
4 portions cooked rice
Mix the beef stock, oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar and cornflour together to make a sauce.
Separately mix the vegetable oil, sesame oil, ginger and garlic and coat the steak with the mixture. Add the steak into a hot wok and fry for around 30 seconds, then add the peppers and onion and cook for 2 minutes.
Add the sauce to the wok and cook for a further 30 seconds, then add a lid to the wok and reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 2 minutes. Then serve over the cooked rice.
These two steak recipes could be your get out of jail free card this Christmas. Keep them on hand in case you need them!
