If you can’t make it to the Stone Grill for a fresh steak on a stone, cooking one at home comes a close second. Get a good quality piece of meat fresh from the butcher and marinade it with one of these homemade marinades. We tried them the other night when we were experimenting at home and they are both delicious!
- 700g of good fresh steak
- 10 tablespoons of Worcester sauce
- 2 teaspoons of good mustard
- 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary finely chopped
- Olive oil
Put the steak inside a freezer bag and add all the ingredients into it. Make sure the steak is covered by giving it a good rub. Remove the air from the bag and seal. Leave the steak in the refrigerator for at least a few hours but preferably overnight.
Get the meat out at least an hour before cooking. Just before cooking, remove from the bag, pat dry with a piece of kitchen towel and cook it to your liking.

Or try this one:
- 500-700g good fresh steak
- 100ml fresh lime juice
- 100ml fresh orange juice
- Salt and pepper
- Sprinkle of oregano
- Olive oil
- 1 garlic clove thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- ½ red onion, thinly sliced
Mix the lime juice, water, orange juice, salt, oregano and pepper into a bowl. Add a little olive oil into a frying pan and cook the garlic and cumin until the garlic is golden. Add the contents of the bowl to the pan and bring it to the boil. Remove the heat and allow to cool.
Add your steak to a casserole dish or the like, pour over half the marinade and cover the entire piece of meat. Marinade overnight or for at least a couple of hours.
Remove the steak from the marinade and allow to come up to room temperature an hour before cooking. Pat dry and cook as you like it. Serve with the rest of the mixture poured over the meat.
These two steak marinades are very different but both taste fantastic. Try them yourself and let us know how you like them!
